Privacy policy

Last updated: July 2026 · Version 1.1

We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights under the Ghana Data Protection Act. Plain language wherever possible.

Who we are

AsaaseYaa is registered and operated in Ghana. We are the data controller for the personal information you share with us in the app. We comply with the Ghana Data Protection Act (Act 843).

What we collect

Identity: your name, phone number, and email if you choose to add one.

Location: the region, district, and nearest town you enter. If you opt in, a coarse GPS reading to show you listings nearby. We never store street-level coordinates.

Farm context: crop type, farm size, season dates, harvest logs, task completion, and soil type you self-report. Used to generate your advisory content.

Marketplace activity: listings you post, orders you place, and messages you send to counterparties.

Payment info: Mobile Money number and account holder name you add to receive payouts. We store these to send your money; we do not initiate charges without your action.

Device basics: app version, OS, and crash logs. No ad-network trackers.

How we use it

To give you personalised agronomic advice, show you the right things in the market (listings nearby, prices in your region), process your payments and payouts via Paystack, and keep the service secure (detecting fraud, verifying your two-factor codes). Anonymised aggregates may be used to improve our models, for example "60% of maize farmers in Bono plant in April", but never tied back to you.

What we never do

We do not sell your personal data. We do not run third-party advertising or analytics trackers. We do not share your contact info with input companies, banks, or aggregators unless you explicitly opt in via Settings → Data & Privacy.

Who we share with

Supabase (our database + authentication provider, hosted in EU data centres). Paystack (our payments processor, based in Nigeria/Ghana, who handle your MoMo transactions under their own privacy policy). Open-Meteo (weather forecasts, which receive an anonymised region name, never your name or phone). Resend (our transactional email provider, only if you set up email-based two-factor auth). Google (Gemini AI: when you use crop-photo diagnosis, the photo you take is sent to Google’s AI service to identify the pest or disease; it is processed under Google’s terms and not used to identify you). Ghana courts or regulators if we are legally compelled to disclose information.

Opt-in data sharing

From Settings → Data sharing preferences you control whether harvest logs can be visible to bulk buyers, whether input partners can reach out, and whether sponsored product tips appear in your care flow. Every toggle is off by default. You can turn any of them on or off at any time.

Security

Data in transit is encrypted with TLS 1.3. Data at rest in our database is encrypted. Two-factor authentication is available in Settings, and strongly recommended if you handle payouts. If we detect a breach affecting your account, we will notify you within 72 hours as required by Ghanaian law.

Retention

Your account data stays with us while your account is active. Delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete and we will remove personally identifying fields within 30 days. We retain transaction ledgers for 7 years as required by Ghanaian tax law, but they are anonymised (no name or phone) after account deletion.

Your rights

Under the Ghana Data Protection Act you have the right to access the data we hold on you, correct inaccuracies, withdraw consent for optional sharing, export your data (from Settings → Account), and lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.org.gh). We respond to all data requests within 30 days.

Children

AsaaseYaa is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We will announce material changes in the app and via SMS to your signed-in number. Small clarifications will update the "Last updated" date below without a push notification.

AsaaseYaa

Asaase Yaa is the earth in Akan tradition. We check what the markets pay, write the growing guidance with an agronomist, and put both in a farmer's hand in the language they farm in.
